Kamel is a robot jockey designed by K-Team (Switzerland) for racing camels in the Arabian Gulf states. A traditional sport in the region, it has recently attracted human rights groups who fear for the lives of the real jockeys, some as young as four years old, who are forced – often after starvation to keep weight down – to race in endurance events. To combat this, the ruling sheiks of Qatar are calling for all camel races to be ridden by robot jockeys by the end of 2007. Weighing in at 27 kg (60 lb), Kamel comes with in-built GPS and shock absorbers, and can be controlled remotely by joystick. The fastest time recorded to date is 40 km/h (25 mph). http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4430851.stm
