Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has simultaneously topped the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart four times during her career – more than any other female artist. She first did it with “Papa Don’t Preach” and True Blue, for three weeks on 12–26 July 1986. This was followed by: “Like a Prayer” and Like a Prayer, for two weeks on 1–8 April 1989; “Hung Up” and Confessions on a Dance Floor, for two weeks on 26 November–3 December 2005; and “4 Minutes” and Hard Candy on 10 May 2008. Rihanna and Ariana Grande have both achieved three simultaneous chart-toppers.

Respectively, The Beatles (14 – all in the 1960s) and Elvis Presley (6 – including 5 times in 1961–62) hold the overall/group and male artist records. ABBA (4 in 1976–80) and Ed Sheeran (4 in 2017–21) are the other acts to have matched Madonna’s female record of four simultaneous UK No.1s.
