The Newport Transporter Bridge across the river Usk at Newport, Wales, UK, spans 181 m (594 ft) and stands 75 m (246 ft) high. The bridge, which was constructed in 1906 and still forms part of the UK public road network, ferries vehicles across the river on a gondola suspended by cables from an overhead track. It was designed by French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin.
