The cone-shaped Shwe Dagon Pagoda in Rangoon, Myanmar, stands 99 m (325 ft) tall, measures 137 m (450 ft) across at its base, and is completely covered in gold plating. The Buddhist shrine has been rebuilt many times, but there is thought to have been a stupa on the site for over 2,000 years. The process of gilding it began in 1900.
