The world’s smallest flowering plants are the watermeals, species of the genus Wolffia. An individual plant is less than 1 mm long and only 0.3 mm wide, and produces a minuscule flower that later develops into the world’s smallest fruit! Related to duckweed (Lemna), watermeal is an aquatic plant and forms a mat on the surface of ponds and quiet streams.
