The most top division sumo championship wins is 45 and was achieved by Yokozuna Hakuho Sho (Japan, b. Munkhbat Davaajargal, Mongolia) between 21 May 2006 and 18 July 2021.


Hakuho won his 45th championship in the makuuchi, sumo’s top division, at the 2021 Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament. The victory came after missing all or part of the previous six grand tournaments due to his knee surgery in March.
