The most consecutive boxing world middleweight title defences is 20 and was achieved by Bernard Hopkins (USA), who defended his IBF title from 27 January 1996 to 19 February 2005.

Carlos Monzón holds the record for defences of the lineal title (14) from 1970 to 1977. Hopkins finally lost his middleweight title to Jermain Taylor. After two defeats to that same opponent he moved two divisions to Light Heavyweight.

The run of 20 defences includes one No Contest, when Hopkins was pushed out the ring accidentally by the referee while fighting Robert Allen.
