The ro-ro ferries MV Caribou and MV Joseph & Clara Smallwood are 179 m (587 ft) long, with a displacement of 16,203 tonnes, and are rated as ice-class 'A1 Super', the highest possible ice rating for commercial vessels. The ships, which are operated by Marine Atlantic between the Canadian mainland and the Canadian island of Newfoundland, are capable of carrying 1,200 passengers and 370 cars.
