The African elephant-trunk fish (Gnathonomus petersi) has the world's most energetic animal brain. In 1996, scientist Goran Nilsson (Norway) revealed that this freshwater fish's brain equals 3.1% of its body mass, and uses more than 50 per cent of the oxygen that its body take in. By contrast, the human brain uses a mere 20% of the oxygen that its body takes in.
Please note, that the Latin name can also be spelt: Gnathonemus petersii. Both are correct, but the one above is more commonly used.
