The most wins of the World Club Challenge is four, achieved by Wigan Warriors (UK) in 1987, 1991, 1994 and 2017; and the Sydney Roosters (Australia) in 1976 (when they were known as Eastern Suburbs), 2003, 2014 and 2019. Sydney defeated Wigan 20–8 in the 2019 World Club Challenge final on 17 February to equal their record for outright wins.
The World Club Challenge trophy is contested by the winners of the Super League in the UK and Australia’s National Rugby League. First held in 1976, it was initially played only intermittently, but has been held every year since 2000.
