The Great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake of 26 December 2004 was the longest earthquake fault rupture ever measured. The rupture occurred along approximately 1,200 to 1,300 km (720­,780 miles) of the curving boundary between the Indo-Australian Plate and the south-eastern part of the Eurasian Plate. In places, the displacement of ocean floor along the fault was as much as 15 m (50 ft).
