The Great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake of 26 December 2004 was the longest earthquake fault rupture ever measured. The rupture occurred along approximately 1,200 to 1,300 km (720,780 miles) of the curving boundary between the Indo-Australian Plate and the south-eastern part of the Eurasian Plate. In places, the displacement of ocean floor along the fault was as much as 15 m (50 ft).
