The smallest species of pig is the pygmy hog (Porcula salvania), with mature males measuring between 61–71 cm (24–28 in) long and females between 55–62 cm (21–24 in). The pygmy hog was indigenous to the Terai region of India, Nepal and Bhutan, but since 1996 it has been listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), as only isolated populations occur in Assam, India and in wildlife sanctuaries.
Males weigh between 8–10 kg (17–22 lb) and females 6–8 kg (13–17 lb).
