Vasil Lobzhanidze plays as a scrum half and only made his debut in February 2015. It was an inspired decision from Kiwi coach Milton Haig, as Georgia beat Tonga 17–10 to claim only their third win at the Rugby World Cup.
Lobzhanidze also played in their other win at the 2015 tournament over Namibia to ensure the former Soviet state qualified for the 2019 edition of the World Cup by finishing third in their group.
