The largest blossoming plant is the Chinese wisteria (Wisteria sinensis) at Sierra Madre, California, USA. It was planted in 1892 and by 1994 had branches measuring 152 m (500 ft) long, covered an area of 0.4 ha (1 acre) and weighed 220 tonnes (48,500 lb). An estimated 1.5 million blossoms were produced during the five-week blossoming period.
