The tallest hospital building is the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital – Li Shu Pui Block in Happy Valley, Hong Kong, which stands 148.5 m (487.2 ft) tall. The 38-storey concrete and steel structure, designed by Wong & Ouyang (HK) Ltd and completed in three phases between 1988 and 2008, is one of the largest private hospitals in Hong Kong, with more than 400 beds. The Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital was inaugurated in September 1922 after the renovation of two buildings which were part of an existing amusement resort in Happy Valley, Hong Kong. Phase 1 (1988-91): 18-storey hospital block with single-level basement car park - total floor area 20,300 sq. metres. Phase 2 (completed 2001): separate eight-storey block on five-storey basement/semi-basement podium. Phase 3 (completed 2008): 20-storey extension of existing Phase 1 hospital block - total floor area 21,500 sq. metres. Phases 1-3 combined is the Li Shu Pui Block.
