The fastest known crossing of the Atlantic by a pair of rowers is 55 days 13 hr, by George Harbo and Gabriel Samuelsen (both Norway), who rowed between New York City, USA, and Le Havre, France, between 6 June and 1 August 1896. On 3 September 1966, John Ridgway and Chay Blyth (both UK) rowed from Cape Cod, USA, to the Aran Isles, Ireland, in English Rose III, the first ocean row of the 20th century. The row took place 70 years after the first ocean row by Norwegians George Harbo and Gabriel Samuelsen in June–August 1896.
