The largest gliding mammal is the giant flying squirrel of the genus Petaurista, found in the forests of Asia and which measure up to 1.1 m or 3.6 ft long (including tail). They typically glide over a distance of 400 m (1,310 ft), but the farthest recorded is 450 m (1,476 ft).
