The farthest recorded glide of a gliding mammal is 450 m (1,475 ft) for a giant flying squirrel of the genus Petaurista, found in the forests of Asia.These creatures are the largest of all gliding mammals (measuring up to 1.1 m or 3.6 ft long, including tail), and are able to 'fly' between trees using the skin-membrane on the sides of their bodies which act as a parachute.
