The smallest marsupial carnivores are the planigales and ningaui, which belong to the subfamily Planigalinae, of Australia. The smallest of these are the long-tailed planigale (Planigale ingrami) - with a body length measuring 5.5–6.3 cm (2.1–2.4 in), a tail length of 5.7–6 cm (2.2–2.3 in) and weight of 3.9–4.5 g (0.13–0.15 oz), and the Pilbara ningaui (Ninguai timealeyi), which has a body length of 4.6–5.7 cm (1.8–2.2 in), a tail length measuring 5.9–7.9 cm (2.3–3.1 in) and weighs 2–9.4 g (0.07–0.33 oz). These ground-dwelling, nocturnal marsupials feed on insects, larvae and small lizards.
