The largest area of land which is named after the same person are the continents of North and South America, which total 42,495,751 km² (16,407,701 miles²). These were named after the fifthteenth century Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci.
The term 'America' was first printed in Cosmographiae introductio* (1507, Introduction to Cosmography) by the German geographer, Martin Waldseemüller who, seemingly unaware of Columbus' discoveries, referred to the area in recognition of Vespucci's voyages there. This book was widely read and the term was gradually accepted universally.
