The heaviest aubergine weighed 3.06 kg (6 lb 11 oz) and was grown by Ian Neale (UK) and ratified at the Canna UK National Giant Vegetables Championships, staged at the Malvern Autumn Show in the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire, UK, on 29 September 2018.
Neale, of Langstone, Newport, Wales, is a multiple Guinness World Records title holder for his prodigious celery, beetroots, swedes and cucumbers. He made the news in 2011 when he befriended the US rapper Snoop Dogg and shared tips on growing big vegetables. Aubergines were accepted as a new category for the first time at Malvern in 2018; among the entrants was multiple-GWR record holder Peter Glazebrook, whose own aubergine, while suitably impressive, failed to beat that of Neale.
