The fastest primate on the ground is the patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas) of western and eastern Africa, which can reach speeds of 34 mph (55 km/h).
Patas monkeys also reproduce earlier than any other Old World monkey (Old World = Africa, Asia. New World = the Americas), reaching sexual maturity by 2.5 years. Patas monkeys are also known as military, red or hussar monkeys and are quadrupedal. With their long slender limbs, they are sometimes called "primate cheetahs".
