The farthest recorded distance that a 4.5-kg (10-lb) weight has been projected by a catapult is 320 m (1,049 ft) and was achieved when the Hon Frederick Wyn of Anglesey (UK) experimented to see if a ball could be thrown across the Menai Straits, Wales, UK. The catapult used was built in 1904 by Sir Ralph Payne-Galwey (UK) and is currently on display at the Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson, Hampshire, UK.
The catapult was an Edwardian interpretation of a Roman catapult.
