Magician Doug Henning (Canada) (1947–2000) attracted more than 50 million viewers for the first of his eight World of Magic one hour television specials. The show, directed by Walter C. Miller (USA), was first transmitted live on NBC in the USA on 26 December 1975, guest starring Gene Kelly (USA). Henning performed spellbinding illusions including a re-creation of Houdini’s famous Water Torture cell as well as close-up magic.
