The most high fives given while competing a marathon (team) is 7,327 and was achieved by EDP (Portugal), at the EDP Lisbon Marathon in Lisbon, Portugal, on 10 October 2026.
The initiative involved five runners completing the marathon while wearing specially manufactured sensor gloves. Each high five exchanged with spectators or fellow runners was recorded live and displayed on EDP’s website. The runners included Pedro Fernandes, a well-known Portuguese breakfast radio presenter, alongside Glória Dias and Leonardo Viegas, who are content creators, and ultramarathon runners Anthony Vincent and Lydia Oldham.
The project was designed to transform a simple gesture of encouragement into practical support: EDP stated that high fives recorded during the race would be converted into energy-equivalent support for social solidarity institutions, with the company providing the equivalent of one year of energy to participating organisations.
