The longest living paraplegic is Beryle Bell (b. 20 January 1932, UK), who has survived for 68 years 69 days since she was diagnosed on 22 June 1946 as confirmed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, UK, on 30 August 2014.
Beryle returned to art college in 1954 and forged a distinguished career in arts living with her disabilities. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy, The Mall, The Metropole Gallery, The Welsh Albany Gallery and has published instructional books for children (via Search press). She also worked with disadvantaged and disabled children using art as a medium and formulated an innovated method of teaching this group that is still in use today.
