Largest ship launched sideways (transverse launch)

The MV Hunte Stern, 186 m (610 ft) long, 37,300 DWT chemical tanker built by Nanjing Jinling Shipyard, Nanjing, China, is the largest vessel ever to be launched transeversely (sideways). At the time of its launch on 29 June 2003 it weighed 9,947 tonnes (22 million lb). MV Hunte Stern was launched on 115 berth bogies (wheeled support trollies) and was moved for 160 m (525 ft) before turning 90º and travelling a further 47 m (154 ft) down a slipway. The entire launch process took nine and a half hours. Beam: 31 m (101.7 ft). DWT is a standard nautical measure of the weight of cargo a ship is able to carry. There is no conversion.
