The highest speed ever reached on water by a human-powered vessel is 18.5 knots (34.26 km/h or 21.28 mph) by Mark Drela (USA), who pedalled the hydrofoil 'Decavitator' over a 100 m (328 ft) course on the Charles River, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on 27 October 1991.
