First solo country artist to headline Wembley Stadium

The first solo country artist to headline Wembley Stadium is Luke Combs (USA), who took over the historic venue in London, UK, on 31 July and 1–2 August 2026, as the curtain fell on his My Kinda Saturday Night Tour.

The sold-out dates, each attended by 90,000 “Bootleggers” (the name affectionately given to his fans), were Wembley's first to feature a solo country musician as the headline act. Combs’ 23-date sixth headline tour went ahead in support of his sixth studio album, The Way I Am, featuring the singles “Back in the Saddle”, “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” and “Be By You”.

Taylor Swift, who began her recording career in 2006 as a country singer, played at Wembley Stadium on 21–23 June (three shows) and 15–20 August 2024 (five shows) as part of her record-breaking The Eras Tour, which featured music from her country era, but she has long been considered a pop (and briefly folk) artist.

Country legend Vince Gill joined the Eagles at Wembley Stadium on 23 June 2019, following the death of the band’s vocalist/guitarist Glenn Frey in 2016, but just performed alongside the surviving members – including a brief nod to Gill’s solo career with a rendition of “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away”.

Kenny Rogers (1938–2020) played at the adjacent Wembley Arena (now the OVO Arena Wembley) on 18 November 1996 (with Glen Campbell and Tammy Wynette on their Unforgettable tour), and on 26 October 2006 (with Rita Coolidge and Don Williams). Clint Black, Kane Brown and Jordan Davis are a few of the country stars who have graced the OVO Arena Wembley in recent years, with Role Model and Kacey Musgraves scheduled for 2027.

The all-country line-up of Thomas Rhett, Ty Myers and The Castellows supported Combs for his three Wembley Stadium gigs, with tickets starting from £55 ($73).

Luke Combs has scored 12 hits on the UK Official Singles Chart since 2023, including a cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”, which peaked at No.30, and the Post Malone collaboration “Guy for That” (No.25).

On the UK Official Albums Chart, three of his six entries have made the Top 10: Growin’ Up (No.9 in 2022), Gettin’ Old (No.5) and The Way I Am (No.4 in 2026). In anticipation of his Wembley Stadium shows, The Way I Am re-entered the chart in July 2026 and was set for a return to the Top 40 on the survey dated 6 August.
