Dhimsa is a lively tribal folk dance associated with the communities of Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh and the neighbouring Koraput region of Odisha. It is performed mainly by women, who form a circle or chin by linking arms or placing their hands one another’s shoulders.
The dancers move together with rhythmic steps, swaying, bending and stomping to the accompaniment of traditional drums and other instruments. Dhimsa is commonly performed during festivals, weddings, harvest celebrations and community gatherings.
More than entertainment, the dance represents unity, friendship and collective joy among tribal communities.
The record was attempted by the Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh, to mark the inauguration of Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram.
