The fastest sea-to-summit ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 m (19,341 ft) above sea level – is 9 days 3 minutes, achieved by Josh Braid, Ollie Kuehne and Sam Wood (all UK) between 28 January and 6 February 2026.

The trio set off from Tanga Yacht Club in Tanzania at 6.43 a.m. on 28 January and covered 452.36 km (281 mi) on bikes up to 7.57 p.m. on 30 January. The remaining 45.4-km (28.2-mi) hike to the summit began at 2 p.m. on 1 February and concluded on 6 February at 6.56 a.m. local time.

As the adventurers wanted a triathlon-style element to their journey, they also completed a 4-km (2.5-mi) swim in the ocean to reach the shore on 27 January, but that element has not been included as part of the ascent.

This epic challenge sought to raise awareness and funds for the British anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which marks its 40th anniversary in 2026.
