The largest green diamond in the world is the Dresden Green, at 40.7 carats. It was purchased in 1743 by Frederick Augustus, II, of Saxony. It is now permanently housed in the Dresden Historical Museum, Dresden, Germany. It is believed to originate from the diamond mines in the district of Golconda, India. Diamonds of a definite colour are very rare. It is believed. The Dresden Green is often regarded as a 'sister' to the Hope Diamond.
