The largest automotive mechanic competition consists of 89,424 participants and was achieved by Tekiro Mechanic Competition 2026 organised by Tekiro (Indonesia) in Indonesia from 2 January to 26 April 2026

The record celebrates a remarkable rise for an event that began much more modestly in 2022. Organized by PT Altama Surya Anugerah, the official distributor of Tekiro Tools, the competition was created to give Indonesian vocational high school students – known locally as SMK students – a chance to test their automotive knowledge and practical skills.

That first competition attracted around 5,400 entrants from the Greater Jakarta area. Four years later, TMC had gone nationwide. A total of 89,565 students were involved at the initial stage in 2026, representing 544 vocational schools across 27 provinces.

The field was narrowed to 30 schools for the semi-finals and then 10 finalists, with students facing technical challenges including electrical systems, fuel systems, presentations and hands-on troubleshooting. This was no simple multiple-choice quiz about spark plugs! Competitors were assessed on correct tool use, working method, speed and the quality of the final result.

The record vividly illustrates the scale of technical education in this region. Competitions such as TMC are designed to connect classroom learning with the skills demanded by the modern automotive industry.

Oscar Sutjiadi, President Director of PT Altama Surya Anugerah, said the event is intended not simply to find winners, but to benchmark young mechanics against recognized technical standards and help develop Indonesia’s future automotive workforce.

The record certificate was presented virtually at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 in Tangerang – a fitting setting for a competition built around the next generation of automotive talent. From a few thousand students in 2022 to a world-record field in 2026, Tekiro Mechanic Competition has shifted up several gears in a very short time.
