Longest continuous penny farthing ride (male)

The longest continuous penny-farthing ride (male), without dismounting, is 382.347 km (237.579 mi), achieved by Richard Thoday (UK) at the Palmer Park stadium in Reading, Berkshire, UK, on 6–7 August 2026.

Thoday started hist attempt at 4 p.m. on 6 August and ended at 11 a.m. on 7 August – an incredible 17 hours in the saddle. It is believed to have bested a historical record of 236 mi (380 km) that had stood since 1886! In all, Thoday completed 833 laps of the track at the velodrome, occasionally being passed food and drink while slowing his speed but never stopping throughout the attempt.

He was also gunning for the greatest distance on a penny farthing in 24 hours record but decided to call it quits at the 17-hour mark once he knew he had surpassed the historical continuous ride record.

Experienced penny-farthing rider Thoday also holds the title for the fastest UK crossing from Land's End to John o' Groats by penny farthing (male): 4 days 11 hr 52 min, achieved on 20–24 July 2019.
