The greatest distance on a tandem penny farthing in one hour is 21.972 km (13.652 mi), achieved by Tim Maltin and Rufus Flann (both UK) at the Palmer Park stadium in Reading, Berkshire, UK, on 7 August 2026.

Maltin was inspired to have the unusual bicycle made in the UK after seeing a similar contraption on a cigarette card from a collection owned by his great-grandfather. The maker of the bike was unicyclist Roger Davies, who has set world records of his own, including in June 2026 the fastest 100 m on a unicycle while blindfolded (37.31 seconds).

Nineteen-year-old Rufus was originally set to take on this tandem challenge with his friend (and Tim's son), Aubrey Maltin, but when a work trip meant he couldn't make the event, his dad stepped up to the plate to take his place. Rufus and Aubrey may yet return to try and improve on the distance.
