Most aggregate runs scored in a Men’s T20 World Cup match

The T20 World Cup semi-final clash between India (253 for 7) and England (246 for 7) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India, on 5 March 2026 produced a tournament-record 499 runs from the 40 overs bowled. The top contributors on both sides were Sanju Samson (89) and Jacob Bethell (105) as India progressed to the final by the slender margin of seven runs.

The match surpassed the 459 runs put on by England (230 for 8) and South Africa (229 for 4) at the same T20 World Cup venue on 18 March 2016.

Outside the T20 World Cup, just one international T20 game has given us more runs: South Africa (259 for 4) vs. the West Indies (258 for 5) at SuperSport Park in Centurion, South Africa, on 26 March 2023 – a 38.5-over willow-wielding spectacle that produced 35 sixes and 317 runs for a total of 517.
