On 23 February 2002, J to tha L-O! The Remixes by Jennifer Lopez (USA) became the first remix album to top the US Billboard 200 chart, shifting more than 156,000 first-week copies to debut at No.1. The album, featuring the hits “Ain’t It Funny” (Murder Remix) and “I’m Gonna Be Alright” (Track Masters Remix), returned to No.1 for a second and final week on 9 March 2002, selling a further 102,000 copies.

As of 11 May 2019, only one other remix album had topped the US chart: Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never: The Remixes (EP), on 5 March 2011. Remix albums that have fared less well on the US albums chart include Madonna’s You Can Dance (1987; No.14), Michael Jackson’s Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix (1997; No.24) and Limp Bizkit’s New Old Songs (2001; No.26).

The 11-track J to tha L-O! The Remixes also features her No.1 debut “If You Had My Love” (Dark Child Master Mix), “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” (RJ Schoolyard Mix), US chart-topper “I’m Real” (Murder Remix) and one original song, the ballad “Alive”, co-written by Lopez for the 2002 thriller Enough, in which she stars as Slim Hiller.

On 9 March 2002, Lopez did the US albums and singles charts double, with her remix album at No.1 in the same week “Ain’t It Funny” (Murder Remix), featuring rapper Ja Rule, crowned the Billboard Hot 100.
