On 11 November 2006, the soundtrack to the teen sitcom Hannah Montana (Disney Channel, 2006) debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. It was the first soundtrack to a TV series to enter the Billboard 200 at No.1.

Hannah Montana fought off competition from new entries by My Chemical Romance (The Black Parade; No.2) and John Legend (Once Again; No.3) to land at the top, selling 281,000 copies in the process.

Numerous film soundtracks have topped the Billboard 200 (most recently Netflix’s K-pop Demon Hunters in 2025), but only three TV soundtracks have achieved it: Hannah Montana: Meet Miley Cyrus (Disney Channel, 2007; a double album packaged with Miley Cyrus’ studio debut), Empire: Original Soundtrack from Season 1 (FOX, 2015) and Descendants (Disney Channel, 2015).

Earlier in 2006, the film soundtrack to another Disney Channel smash, High School Musical, took seven weeks to reach the top spot, getting there on 11 March, while on 2 September of the same year, the film soundtrack to The Cheetah Girls 2 (Disney Channel) – the highest-charting of the Cheetah Girls trilogy – debuted in an all-new Billboard 200 top five at No.5.
