The Eden Project, near St Austell, Cornwall, UK, consists of two giant transparent domes ('biomes'), the larger of which (the humid tropics biome) stands 55 m (180 ft) tall, covers 25,390 m² (273,295 ft²) and has a total volume of 415,730 m³ (14.681 million ft³). The smaller warm temperate biome has 6,540 m² (70,395 ft²) of floor space and a volume of 85,620 m³ (3.02 million ft³).
Designed by architect Nicholas Grimshaw and engineers Anthony Hunt and Associates , the biomes are constructed of steel frames carrying hexagons and pentagons of ETFE thermoplastic.
