As of 4 May 2022, Jack Nicholson and Alan Alda (both USA) share honours for the actor with the most Golden Globes, with six wins each.
Nicholson received his awards between 1975 and 2003. They were for: Best Motion Picture Actor – Drama: in 1975 for Chinatown (USA 1974); in 1976 for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (USA 1975) and in 2003 for About Schmidt (USA 2002). Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture in 1984 for Terms of Endearment (USA 1983); Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical in 1986 for Prizzi's Honor (USA 1985) and 1998 for As Good As It Gets (USA 1997).
Alda's six wins were all in the Best Television Actor – Musical/Comedy Series category, and were awarded in 1975–76 and 1980–83. He was recognized for his portrayal of "Hawkeye" Pierce in CBS's long-running war comedy-drama M*A*S*H.
The Golden Globes have been presented annually since 1944 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group of Los Angeles-based journalists covering Hollywood for foreign publications.
