The youngest person to climb Makalu I (8,485 m; 27,838 ft) without using bottled oxygen is Chhang Dawa Sherpa (Nepal, b. 30 July 1982), who was 18 years 288 days old when he reached the summit of the fifth highest mountain on 14 May 2001.
Makalu was Chhang Dawa's first 8,000er, which he climbed without supplementary oxygen while fixing the rope to the top.
