US jazz pianist, composer and bandleader Chick Corea (1941–2021; b. Armando Corea) extended his lead over Pat Metheny for the most-awarded jazz artist when “Windows – Live” won Best Jazz Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on 1 February 2026. It was Corea’s 29th statuette (from 77 nominations), the last six of which have been awarded posthumously since March 2021. “Windows – Live” features bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade (both USA).

Corea’s run of success at the Grammys began in 1976 when his jazz-rock fusion band Return to Forever won Best Jazz Performance by a Group (now Best Jazz Instrumental Album) for their 1975 studio set No Mystery.

He has won the Best Jazz Performance Grammy (originally Best Jazz Performance, Individual, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo and Best Improvised Jazz Solo) an unprecedented eight times – first with “Rhumbata” (feat. Gary Burton) in 1999, and consecutively with “All Blues” in 2021 and “Humpty Dumpty (Set 2)” in 2022. He attracted the first of his record 15 category nods with the album Trio Music in 1984.

Pat Metheny’s (1954–) 20 jazz Grammy awards, won in 10 different categories, and many as a member of the Pat Metheny Group, were collected between 1983 and 2013. In 2000, Metheny teamed up with Corea, Burton, Roy Haynes and Dave Holland for the album Like Minds, which won Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Individual or Group at the Grammys in 2000.
