The highest drop of a mobile phone in a phone case (natural landforms) is 30,607 m (100,418 ft 8 in) and was achieved by RHINOSHIELD PTE. LTD. (Singapore) and Sent Into Space LTD. (UK) in Kiruna, Sweden, on 24 June 2026
The main organizer, RHINOSHIELD PTE. LTD. is Singapore-based brand company specializing in mobile accessories, known for durable phone protection and sustainability-driven product design. This attempt highlighted AirX’s breakthrough mono-material design, launched in 2025. By solving the challenge of single-material protective airbags, the case proved exceptional impact resistance and showed that sustainability and top-tier protection can work together.
On June 22, 2026, an official Guinness World Records attempt was conducted at Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, Sweden, in partnership with Sent Into Space. Three phones encased in AirX cases were dropped from near space at planned altitudes of 26 km, 28 km, and 30 km using a helium-powered stratospheric balloon. Custom payloads with cameras, tracking systems, and drogue chutes ensured fair testing by matching the terminal velocity of an unencumbered phone. A fourth payload captured marketing footage.
Recovery operations spanned two days, with all payloads successfully retrieved. One device was unintentionally released at 30,607 meters, becoming the highest drop. Extensive pre-testing, including drone drops, environmental simulations, and stratospheric trials, ensured reliability. Drop heights were verified through synchronized telemetry and video data, meeting measurement and validation standards according guidelines.
