Brazil beat hosts Sweden 5–2 to lift the FIFA World Cup for the first time. Teenager striker Pelé struck twice to become the youngest final goal scorer (aged 17 years 249 days), while Sweden’s Nils Liedholm (35 years 264 days) became the oldest. The game remains the highest-scoring World Cup final. Five finals (1930, 1938, 1966, 2018 and 2022) have featured a total of six goals.
