He broke Pakistan batter Shahid Afridi’s decade-old record of 351 sixes, achieved in 369 ODI innings between 1996 and 2015.
West Indies batter Chris Gayle (331 sixes in 294 innings in 1999-2019) is ranked third, behind Rohit and Afridi, for hitting the most sixes in an ODI career. Of those who have played ODI cricket in 2025, Rohit’s closest active challengers are England’s Jos Buttler (182), India’s Virat Kohli (161) and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (155). Across all three international formats, Rohit extended his existing record for the most career sixes to 645 in Ranchi, having also cleared the boundary rope on 205 occasions in T20 Internationals (151 innings, 2007-24) and 88 times in the Test arena (116 innings, 2013-24). As of 30 November 2025, India’s talismanic opener, 38, had retired from both formats, leaving just his ODI career active. Gayle (553 sixes) and Afridi (476) were second and third.
