The longest mammalian tongue belongs to the nectar bat, Anoura fistulata of the Andes, Ecuador, which has a measured reach of 8.49 cm (3.34 in) - that is 150% of its body length. According to Nathan Muchhala of the University of Miami, Florida, USA, who published these tongue measurements in Nature (Volume 444, 7 December 2006), it is no coincidence that A.fistulata is the sole pollinator of Centropogon nigricans, with corolla tubes measuring 8-9 cm (3.14-3.54 in) in length.
