The longest expressway tunnel measures 22.130 km (13.751 mi) and was achieved by the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, constructed by the Department of Transport of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and China Communications Construction Company Limited (both China) in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, on 16 December 2025.

The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, located in the high-altitude and cold region of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang, is a critical component of the Urumqi–Yuli Expressway. Unlike traditional excavation methods, the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel is the first to adopt a construction scheme featuring "three tunnels + four vertical shafts". The two main tunnels on the left and right will serve as the primary north-south passages, while the central pilot tunnel will be dedicated to emergency rescue services.

The opening of the expressway will reduce the travel time between Urumqi and Korla from 7 hours to 3 hours.
