Following a 5–2 loss to the Mamelodi Sundowns on 11 March 2023, Al Ahly embarked on a 27-match unbeaten run in the CAF Champions League, winning the 2022/23 title and defending it the next season without losing a game. Al Ahly’s streak came to a surprise end at the hands of Algeria’s CR Belouizdad, who beat them 1–0 in a group-stage tie on 3 January 2025. They won a total of 19 games and drew eight.
