Established on 6 August 1970, Chugach is the third-largest state park overall in the USA, only surpassed by the more remote Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California and Wood-Tikchik State Park, also in Alaska.
The park comprises the Chugach Mountains and foothills, spruce and birch forest, rivers and lakes. It’s home to much of North America’s most iconic wildlife including moose, brown and black bears, wolves, beavers, lynx and mountain goats.
