The largest tropical forest reserve is the Tumucumaque National Park, in the northern Amazonian state of Amapa, Brazil. Measuring some 38,875 km²(15,010 miles²) in area, the reserve contains many endangered species of plant and animal. The creation of the park was announced on 22 August 2002 by Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
